The first person to be featured in this new section Special Interviews is a great “Donna del Vino” – one of the women involved in the Italian winemaking industry: Giulia Alleva, queen of the Tenuta Santa Caterina, an amazing resort in the Monferrato region which also includes a vineyard, of course!
A wonderful mansion built in 1737, 6 rooms and an excellent sense of hospitality. The Alleva family, and especially Giulia, welcome their guests is an elegant yet comfortable environment, and with their excellent wines, produced in a 20-hectar property and stored in a fabulous cellar!
In this very first Wine Princess Special Interview, Giulia describes the wines they produce along with her commitment to the resort management and the sales to Italian and foreign customers. 50% of guests are from abroad and 45% of the wine produced is exported. Feedback after EXPO 2015 and the development of the Monferrato region is good, however, Giulia intends to increase export further.
She tells me about Vignalina, a Barbera d’Asti D.O.C.G. Superiore – the most common Monferrato native vine. The name derives from Lina Borgo, a famous benefactress and founder of an educational institution for children.
Outstanding qualities that were passed to Giulia!
It is an honour for Wine Princess to meet this Donna del Vino, her products label read her father’s dedication and even the character of her wine was chosen especially for her.
Sorì di Giul is a Freisa expressing the feminine soul of this place, a feminine Nebbiolo exclusively dedicated to Giulia. She also says that Sorì di Giul is her favourite because she thinks that this wine is like her, still and with a strong personality!
There’s nothing better than expressing yourself in a divine nectar that reflects its territory and history.
Wine Princess suggests
Spending a weekend in the Monferrato region, at the Alleva family’s Resort Santa Caterina, and tasting the local wines, especially the Sorì di Giul.
“Sorì” in the local dialect means sunny hill, “Giul” stands for Giulia, our Donna del Vino. A Freisa D.O.C. aged in French oak barrels for about 8 months, with a rich flavour and texture, to be combined with Piedmont meat and first dishes.
A feminine wine which fully reflects a feminine soul!
And here is Giulia’s special dedication to Wine Princess…
God save Freisa.. and the Donne del Vino!
