A tour of the Champagne region is something one should do at least once in a lifetime!
The cities of Reims and Epernay (Champagne-Ardenne) are well worth a visit for those who love French sparkling wines and wish to appreciate the terroir.
Wine Princess LOVES to describe the terroir as a mix of different elements, soil, topography, climate, landscape, biodiversity and – above all – man: the terroir exists thanks to the vignerons! Also, whether you are tasting sparkling wines or visiting cellars, the smiling angel of the Reims Cathedral will be looking at you.
We are 11 friends and our trip starts with a visit to the Maison Ruinart.
The maison was established in 1729 by a monk and was the first to use wooden cases to transport wine.
The guided tour of the chalk caves alone is worth the trip. In those crayères, the bottled wine ages in silence and in an old times atmosphere…
Two remarkable tastings:
1 – Ruinart Blanc de Blanc
Who should drink it: Those who wish to discover the real Ruinart taste.
When to drink it: On a special occasion, so that you won’t forget one of the leading maisons of the Champagne region.
A wonderful opportunity: Enjoy it with friends who love sparkling wines …
Also, Ruinart comes in different sizes, which Wine Princess finds really interesting: the usual bottle size you drink with other people but, especially, the demi (half bottle) you can have alone after a hard day at work… a great appetizer!

2 – Dom Ruinart 2006 Blanc de Blanc
Who should drink it: Those who love fine and straightforward champagnes. A masterpiece.
When to drink it: On one of the most important days of your life.
A wonderful opportunity: On THE most important and special day of your life, with just one essential ingredient: the right person for you…
Thanks to Ruinart, now also Wine Princess has fully understood what aromatic freshness in wines is like!
God save the wine, and especially the Ruinart!
