In a small town close to Brixen, Varna, near the Brenner motorway, is a wonderful abbey which is well worth a trip with your friends! Art, nature and especially the spirituality of the Abbazia di Novacella will stay in your heart!
The self-sufficient monastery has been run by Augustinian Canons for over 850 years, providing service to the community and performing various activities, including the production of wine and apple juice.
This vineyard region has a cool climate ideal for growing Sylvaner, Müller Thurgau, Gewurztraminer and Kerner vines, the typical Eisack Valley wines.
The guided visit of the church and the beautiful library will give you an idea of how unique and magnificent this place is … also the tasting is delicious! In the wine shop and bar you can try all the local production.
Red wines such as the classic Kalterersee Auslese, Pinot Noir and Lagrein, along with Praepositus Blauburgunder and Lagrein Riserva to be paired with a plate of local cheeses and black bread. Among white wines, we have the classic Pinot Gris, Sauvignon and Vetliver, and Paepositus wines such as Riesling, Sauvignon and Sylvaner.
