Wine Princess suggests
Paired with this wonderful dessert, which has the sweet taste of the harvesting season, Wine Princess recommends a Recioto della Valpolicella Classico from the Cantina Corte Martini.
Recioto is a sweet red passito DOCG wine that is exclusively produced in the Valpolicella region, near Verona, from dried grapes of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara.
The name comes from “recia” – “ear” in the Veneto dialect. In fact, this wine was made using the ears – the top – of the bunch of grapes, the best and sweetest ones!
Who should drink it: those who love not-too-sweet dessert wines. Recioto classico has an enveloping but not cloying flavour.
When to drink it: in the afternoon, with a chocolate cake … or in the evening, after dinner, to relax and meditate, or to forget a hard day. A glass of Recioto, maybe combined with a small piece of dark chocolate, will warm your heart and soul!
A wonderful opportunity: a traditional cycling-race, the Palio del Recioto in Negrag near Verona. It’s held on Easter Monday and is also a contest between the best Recioto producers of the region.
God save Recioto!
