What book should you read on the beach, or take with you during a walk in the mountains?
A guide on the top Champagne houses, “Le migliori 99 Maison di Champagne – Edizioni Estemporanee, 2018/2019”.
Why a guide on Champagne? Because Champagne is constantly innovating … and, considering the price, one should know more about it!
This book was first published 6 years ago and was one of the first guides ever to talk about Champagne only. For the current edition, covering 400 Maison, they had to taste up to 15.000 bottles …
… A DREAM!
Also, this edition will go down in history because it’s the very last paper version of the book. The next guide will be fully digital and only available on the mobile 99CHAMPAGNEAPP.
The first part of the book is a clear description of Champagne, with some historical information and especially some suggestions on how to drink, preserve and taste this wine. The most interesting section is the one dedicated to the special prize awarded by the editorial staff and called “BAB – BUONO A BESTIA” – which means EXTREMELY good. A concept that really reflects my thoughts … no matter how perfect a wine is, the best wine, is the one you like!
The rest is a highly technical and professional description of the various Maisons.
These were the “BAB” Champagnes selected by the staff:
- Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2004 Brut Pol Roger
- Blanc D’Argile Brut Nature, Vouette et Sorbée
- Cristal 2009 Brut Louis Roederer
- Brut Grand Cru, Marie Noelle Ledru
- Le Clos L’Abbé, Hubert Soreau
A really interesting book for all Champagne lovers …
Wine Princess & Champagne
I’ve been lucky enough to taste some of the brands: Billecart-Salmon, Drappier, André Beaufort, Ulysse Collin, Jacquesson, Pol Roger, Louis Roederer, Gatinois, De Sousa, Leclapart, Salon and Selosse.
There are only 87 left! I’ll take the guide and leave immediately for France!
Finally, a message for the editorial staff: “Please remember that Wine Princess is always there if you need any help with your “hard” job!”
God save Champagne!
